What exactly is a Halal Skin Care Products routine?

Halal Skin Care Products revolves around a sustainable, clean, and ethical approach to taking care of your skin. This means avoiding ingredients that are considered unclean, such as certain alcohols or animal-derived compounds obtained unethically.

To obtain Halal certification, a skincare brand must adhere to Halal practices throughout production, from sourcing raw ingredients to manufacturing, packaging, and distribution.

Halal cosmetics allow your skin to breathe and are not waterproof, ensuring they are never occlusive.

Initially, these standards were applied to food and what we consume. However, considering that our skin is our largest organ and can absorb substances, any impure ingredient for consumption is also considered impure for our skin.

This forms the fundamental ideology behind Halal Skin Care Products brands. And now, you can have it all: Clean, Halal Skincare!

Some ingredients that are not allowed in Halal Skin Care Products products include alcohol (except for benzyl alcohol), collagen from mammals, human or animal-derived stem cells, gelatine from pigs, animal by-products obtained through cruel methods, animal-derived ingredients from Haram animals, and GMOs.

Here are some of the ingredients that are allowed in Halal Skin Care products:

  1. Plant-derived extracts made according to Halal principles
    2. Animal-derived by-products that are obtained without harming the animal and using Halal methods
    3. Synthetically produced ingredients in a lab-setting
    4. Vitamins and antioxidants that are plant-derived or synthetic
    5. Hyaluronic acid made with Swiss biotech methods
    6. Other plant-derived or synthetic ingredients
    7. Powerful natural ingredients like honey or snail mucin

As for vegan products, they can be considered Halal as long as they do not contain any Haram ingredients.

What Ingredients Can Be Used in a Halal Skin Care Products Brand?

We are aware of the ingredients that are not allowed, so let’s focus on the ones that are acceptable in Halal skincare.

There are numerous Halal ingredients available, so it’s impossible to list them all. However, here are some of our favorite approved ingredients:

  1. Plant-derived extracts produced according to Halal principles.
    2. Animal-derived by-products that are obtained without harming the animal and using Halal methods. For example, collecting snail mucin extract through an SPA treatment.
    3. Synthetically produced ingredients in a laboratory setting, like our Swiss biotech methods.
    4. Vitamins and antioxidants that are either plant-derived or synthetic, such as vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin A, and more.
    5. Hyaluronic acid made using Swiss biotech methods in a lab (be cautious of the natural counterpart derived from rooster combs).
    6. All other plant-derived or synthetic ingredients.
    7. Powerful natural ingredients like honey or snail mucin.

Are Vegan Products Considered Halal?

Not necessarily. While vegan products do not contain any animal-derived raw materials, they may still not be considered Halal.

For instance, if they contain ethanol alcohol, they would be considered impure and unable to qualify for Halal certification.
